Baca's Artemis kennelwood, affectionately known as "Moosie", was our first bullmastiff. She was often mistaken for a male because of her exceptional head and substance. Today her paw print can be seen in the concrete that is the cornerstone of our kennel. We credit her with providing us with a solid foundation for our kennel to build on. She had melting brown eyes and she was an expert at convincing even the most reluctant visitor into becoming a big dog fancier. She loved to prop her chin on a visitor's knee and was extremely successful at getting them to share whatever food they happen to be eating.

Our small kennel is located on 28 acres in Maryland. Our aim is to produce Bullmastiffs that are a credit and welcome addition to the home and to the breed.  This web site is intended to introduce ourselves, our dogs, and the bullmastiff breed that we know and love.  We hope you enjoy our web site and will visit us frequently. We have been ABA members since 1985.

Bullmastiffs are great family dogs. Delaney takes excellent care of my son's family. When Caitlin was a baby, Delaney would hear her crying in the nursery, and would go and get my son or his wife. She adores that little girl. However young children and dogs need supervision. No dog is a live-in babysitter nor is he just another stuffed toy.   Prevention and proper guidance of children and pets remains a necessity.  Bullmastiff owners learn to stay alert to potential problem situations.  When a lady let her dog loose in the park and it charged toward Caitlin, Delaney immediately went into her bullmastiff stance and placed herself between the stray and the child.  She was prepared to take action.  Fortunately we were able to grab the stray and return it to its owner without injury.  Delaney is a very gentle dog and this was the first time she showed us that she was quite able to be the guardian we expected her to be.  Such behavior is natural and part of what makes a good bullmastiff.   It will show up when the need is there.

The Bullmoose Bullmastiff web site is quite large.  This site is not a commercial site. It is designed and maintained by June of Bullmoose! We hope you enjoy our informal pictures, movies, and stories. Since it is a pictorial record of our dogs, many pictures are included.  Please be patient when the pages are loading because I'm sure you will enjoy seeing the dogs.  We have been fortunate to have had some really great dogs to take pictures of and we hope you enjoy our efforts. A special feature of Bullmoose Bullmastiffs is "Watching the puppy grow" which shows the pictorial growth of a puppy. To go directly to the growth section, click here.

Bullmastiffs  are "watchers".  Visitors will  find themselves quietly observed.  When you change rooms, you will hardly notice that this big dog has quietly followed you into the next room and is again  observing you from his new advantage point.   When a stranger knocks at your door,  the bullmastiff will position himself between his owner and that stranger who arrived to knock on the door.  Bullmastiffs guard their homes well.  They are  serious dogs that require serious owners who understand they need plenty of socialization and training that first year of their lives.  A well adjusted dog, who has gained confidence and knows his job,  is one that will guard his home and his family well.  Do not expect the bullmastiff to bark unless he has a good reason.
