Meet the Family Tara...June...David...Dan...Wendy...Caitlin |
We knew we needed a new dog when we arrived back at the house and found our labrador entertaining four strangers. They were all sitting in the living room watching TV. After studying our AKC book, we decided the bullmastiff was the breed for us. This all happened in 1985. Today we continue to breed bullmastiffs. At the moment we have Seven--Jack, Bella, Phoenix, Amanda, Gypsy, Harry, and Suzy. .
We were a 4-family. We raised registered Nubian dairy goats that we showed and milked for twelve years. We also raised registered Dorset sheep. My children grew up knowing that the goats had to be milked twice a day and the paperwork had better be accurate and up to date. Of course children do grow up and move on to other pursuits. Wendy is now an accountant and David works as a contractor with the Navy.

Tara is David's wife and they have a daughter Caitlin who is pictured on the left admiring the puppy her grandfather is holding. Families grow and we're happy with our new additions. More kennel help! Just kidding!. |
We have begun slowly to show again. However three of the dogs on my homepage have won at ABA National shows. Baca's Artemis Kennelwood won three times at two different ABA National shows in 1986 and 1988. Kismet's Moonlit Shadow, was a ABA National show winner in 1991 in his open class as a mature adult. Bullmoose Teacher's Pet was a ABA National winner in 1996.
As to why we aren't showing more? I think we just all got plum tuckered out. Besides doing the 4-H shows, I also showed my Morgan horse for a number of years. There were also those music competitions we did. Of course you have to attend the basketball games when your kid is playing. Sometimes I mention to the family that maybe we should get on back out there and be showing these dogs more. However around here the only response you'll get for that notion is a bunch of groans--"Not more weekends in a car!" I use to pay my daughter to go with me to the some of the dog shows, but that doesn't even work anymore since she now makes more money than I do. Today we continue to enjoy our bullmastiffs. The goats, the sheep, the horse, and even the children have moved out. However the dogs are still here and will continue to be here at Bullmoose. We got started in this breed because we wanted a dog that would keep four strangers out of the house. They have done that job very nicely. However it certainly has been a bonus to have dogs of this quality to look at every day. We began with quality and we will continue to breed for quality. I expect to see more bully dogs around here with plenty of substance, type, and size in the future keeping us company. We do have a younger generation coming up. Perhaps Caitlin will continue where we left off. You never know. |
