Points--How to get them!

It takes 15 points to make a conformation champion.

Each dog or bitch must enter its breed conformation class and win that breed class. Enter one class only. The classes at the shows include:

Puppy--6-9, 9-12
12-18 months
Novice
Bred by Exhibitor
American Bred
Open

When all the classes have been completed, the winners of each class will return to the ring to be judged once more. This time the judge will choose "Winner" dog from the dog classes and from the bitch classes, "Winners" bitch. These animals will received points based on the number of dogs or bitches that were shown that day. The exact number of points the dog or bitch will receive per region can be seen here. Click here

When the "Winners Bitch" and "Winners Dog" have been selected, the champions that have been entered for the "Best of Breed" class enter the ring. These can be males or females. All will compete once more for best of breed.

When the Best of Breed winner is chosen, then the "Best of Opposite" will be chosen. The third category is "Best of Winners" which put the "Winners Dog" against the "Winner bitch". This can be important because the points either one may have gotten might be more than the other. If the one with less points wins "Best of Winners". Then this new winner is awarded the same points as the one with more points. Nobody loses points. Should the Winner Dog or Winners Bitch win best of breed (count the number of Champions of both sexes and add that to the total) or best of opposite (add on the Champions of the same sex). Those points will be added to the the number of points for the day already received.

More information about points or further information about the available classes can be seen here. Click here The Best of Breed winner will represent the breed in the group competition.
