PUPPY PLACEMENT POLICY

DECEMBER 2, 2014 LITTER

We have bred and raised about 12 litters of bullmastiff puppies since 1988 and we have placed most of the puppies with good families in good homes.  We have kept quite a few “replacement” puppies because ‘puppies don’t take up much space’ (June).

News of our December 2, 2014, litter of 6 puppies (4 females and 2 males) was placed on our website about December 4, 2014 and by January 4, 2015, we received emails from 50 individuals interested in these puppies and, at least an equal number of telephone calls.  It is evident that we need a ‘formal’ puppy placement policy because there just aren’t enough puppies to satisfy everyone who wants one.

The primary objective is to see that the puppies are placed in good homes.  That objective is easier stated than accomplished especially when most of the people who express interest in the puppies live out of state.  We understand (but regret) that almost all of our puppies’ new families do not intend to show their puppies at dog shows and do not plan to breed their puppies.  If more people would breed the bullmastiff puppies they get from us, there would be more beautiful puppies available.  To the best of our knowledge, none of the puppies we have placed ended up at puppy mills or in dog fighting rings.  We do ask prospective puppy families a few questions and we do some ‘background research’ to try to ensure the puppies go to good homes.  We think this is only fair to the puppies and to us because anyone who finds our puppies and us knows how to use the internet and knows a lot more about us than we know about them.

Our brand new ‘formal’ puppy placement policy requires a little trust on both sides of these transactions.  We ask prospective buyers to send us a refundable $100 deposit and we prefer personal checks because they usually contain home addresses and telephone numbers.  We do not cash the check until a puppy is placed in a new home.  The date we receive the deposit will secure a place in line for the next available puppy pending the results of our ‘research’.  We have returned a few deposits because we did not want to place any of our puppies with the prospective buyers but those cases were rare.  The check is refundable upon request and there are no conditions that have to be met.

We ask prospective buyers to specify whether they want a male puppy or a female puppy.  All of our litters have had both male and female puppies and most of our puppy families thought about their preferences before they contacted us.
