Briny was the forgotten son of Ch.
Blazin's Brahma Bull. He was only used once as a sire. His four pups were very
promising. One of them I kept and now Dusty is our head sire here at
Bullmoose.
Briny was bred by Vic Zeoli of Kismet Bullmastiffs. I
helped finish the litter for Vic and Briny went on to his new home. Several
years later Vic called to let me know that Briny had fallen on hard times. He
was in a locked basement and the dog was not being taken care of properly. I was
asked if I would take the dog.
Dan and I agreed that we'd give the dog a
chance to live here at Bullmoose. Briny was not in good condition and every rib
showed. He also was not that grateful to be rescued. However Briny was one of
the smartest dogs I have ever met and it didn't take him long to adopt us as the
good guys. This wonderful macho dog gave us his trust and provided us with years
of enjoyment. I have a link to the Bullmastiff rescue site on my main homepage.
If you are considering an older animal, please take a look at these dogs that
are in need of a good home and could provide you with years of wonderful
companionship.
Briny won his open class at the ABA National in 1991. I
sometimes feel bad that he wasn't used more as a sire. However a lot of people,
who were in the breed a lot longer than I was and using the same bloodline,
walked right past him. If I had had more than one female, I would have used him
on every one of them, but I didn't. Today some of these same people, who walked
right passed Briny, have taken the time to tell me that they should have used
him in their breeding programs. Well I certainly agree with that. They missed
out on a great dog, but it's too late now. He's dead! As the farmers around here
would put it "You have to make hay when the sun shines".
I have included
Briny's pedigree and some film so those of you who would like to see the dog can
do so. I happen to think this dog was an excellent representative of the breed
and have put him on this page so he can finally get the recognition he deserves.
All of us at Bullmoose thought this dog was mighty special. We're awfully glad
we said, "Yes! We'll take him."
